Livia Fontana 2019 Villero Barolo DOCG Piedmont Italy

93 Points James Suckling • 93 Points Falstaff • Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri

The Livia Fontana 2019 Villero Barolo DOCG is a refined, traditional expression of 100% Nebbiolo from the celebrated Villero cru in Castiglione Falletto, one of Barolo's historic vineyard sites. The southwest-facing vineyard sits on mineral-rich Sant'Agata Fossili marl, producing wines prized for structure, longevity and elegant tannins.

The 2019 opens with expressive aromas of violet, sour cherry, raspberry, blood orange, cinnamon and nutmeg, followed by a fresh, beautifully structured palate of red fruit, citrus peel, savory spice and mineral notes. Refined Nebbiolo tannins and vibrant acidity lead to a long finish marked by saline and balsamic nuances.

Hand-harvested and traditionally vinified with approximately 20 days of maceration, the wine receives extended maturation in large traditional oak followed by bottle aging. A standout Barolo for both near-term enjoyment and long-term cellaring.
