Tassi 2019 Bruno Toscana Rosso IGT
The Tassi 2019 Brunò Toscana Rosso IGT is a profound and distinctive expression of 100% Sangiovese, crafted from the same elite vineyard source used for the estate’s top Brunello cru. Produced in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, southeast of Montalcino, Brunò represents a purist, terroir-driven wine that marries ancient winemaking tradition with modern precision—earning an outstanding 95 points from James Suckling.
Sourced from the upper parcels of Vigna Tassi (planted in 1999), the vineyard sits at 240 meters above sea level with south-west exposure and mineral-rich, clay-loam soils high in magnesium, iron, and manganese. These conditions yield Sangiovese of exceptional depth, balance, and aromatic complexity.
What truly sets Brunò apart is its exclusive use of traditional Impruneta amphorae. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in 8–10 hl terracotta amphorae, followed by an extended 4–6 month maceration. The wine then ages an additional 6–8 months in amphora, allowing purity of fruit, texture, and mineral expression to shine—without the influence of oak.
The 2019 vintage offered ideal growing conditions, with a mild winter, a rainy spring, and a warm but temperate summer free of heat spikes. The result is perfect phenolic ripeness, freshness, and harmony.
In the glass, Brunò is intense yet elegant, delivering layered aromatics, refined structure, and remarkable energy. This is a soulful, age-worthy Tuscan red that bridges the world of Brunello and experimental amphora winemaking.
