Domaine de Vernus 2019 Fleurie Beaujolais 1.5L Magnum

91 Points Falstaff • Cru Beaujolais • Old-Vine Gamay • Rare Magnum

The Domaine de Vernus 2019 Fleurie Magnum is an elegant, terroir-driven expression of Cru Beaujolais, crafted from Gamay grown on the granitic slopes of Fleurie. The estate’s 2019 vintage is defined by floral finesse, red-fruit purity, and impressive length, with the domaine specifically noting its potential for long aging.

Aromas of red cherry, raspberry, grenadine, musk, tobacco, and dried floral notes lead to a smooth, refined palate with vibrant fruit, mineral freshness, and fine tannins. Fruit comes from the Grand Pré, Vers le Mont, and La Levratière plots, with vines averaging approximately 35 to 70 years old and rooted in weathered granite at around 250 meters elevation.

Traditional winemaking includes hand harvesting and sorting, 75% destemming with 25% whole clusters, natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, cold maceration, and 10 months of aging in oak barrels. Only 6,980 bottles were produced, making the 1.5L Magnum an especially compelling format for collectors and serious Beaujolais enthusiasts.
