Domaine de Vernus 2020 Chiroubles Beaujolais 1.5L Magnum
91 Points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate • Cru Beaujolais • High-Altitude Gamay • Rare Magnum
The Domaine de Vernus 2020 Chiroubles Magnum is a vibrant and terroir-driven expression of Cru Beaujolais from the highest vineyards in the region. Sourced from steep hillside parcels averaging 425 meters in elevation, this 100% Gamay wine combines bright freshness, expressive fruit, and distinctive granite-driven minerality.
The 2020 opens with aromas of cassis, licorice, rich spices, and sweet earth, followed by a supple, lively palate filled with juicy red fruit and refined tannins. A subtle saline character carries through the persistent finish, giving the wine remarkable energy and balance.
Fruit comes from the Verbomet and Châtenay plots, with vines averaging 61 and 34 years respectively. The vineyards feature shallow granite soils and slopes exceeding 30%, helping preserve freshness and aromatic precision. The wine is hand harvested, 100% destemmed, naturally fermented with wild yeasts, and aged for 10 months in a combination of oak barrels and vats.
